A snapshot of where I am right now, and where I plan to be.
I have recently fulfilled a long-standing dream of mine: becoming an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of São Carlos. I have now a deeper relationship with my new colleagues, which in large part were my Professors and mentors, and we are developing a greant friendship. My main objective now is to establish a new research group and develop a new research line on our graduate program. I will also start teaching tomorrow two undergrad courses. At the same time, I want to keep strengthening the international collaboration network of which I am part. Thus, I am involved on several nice activities, such as: i) supervising a part of a research project with Petrobras, where I'll get the opportunity to supervise my first students; ii) preparing a grant proposal for the infrastructure required to consolidate my new research group; iii) defining the name, visual identity, and values of this new research group; iv) co-supervising a PhD and a Master's students on the drying of refractory castables; v) recruiting undergrad students willing participate in our research projects; vi) concluding previously started projects and publish unfinished papers (a.k.a the "low hanging fruits" from my PhD - still); vii) reviewing papers and research proposals, viii) participating in conferences, viii) prospecting new collaborations and research projects...
I will be closing some topics of my post-doc which we did not had enough time to finish before my hiring. I will also be working on developing thermohygrochemomechanical models por Portland cement pastes and using X-ray tomography for this matter. I am also trying to stay connected with the researchers from the Institut Laue Langevin and the Sirius team from the MOGNO line. I really feel that I can contribute with our department on promoting fullfield time resolved analysis using X-ray and Neutron tomography.
I am very excited to start teaching this semester for the first time at the undergraduate level. I'll be teaching "Mechanics of Solids 1" and "Ceramic Materials Processing", two subjects that I have great identity with, but which I really want to learn more. I've heard that you really learn when you teach, and just by preparing the course materials, I already feel more confident in these subjects. I would like to keep teaching these courses for now.
I am now completing my first year back to swimming after a 13 years halt. It has been great and I can feel the progress each session. I am still having issues with my dive start, though... I also continue with Pilates for my bad back and started to cook healthier food with my wife. I plan to keep a healthier body and mind. My leisure reading gave space to technical books on the subjects that I am teaching right, but I plan to go back to then once the semester finishes, particularly, I was enjoying the Nexus book by Harari. Finally, I am also still taking care of my small garden.
